Project Required Skills

What are Required Skills?

A Required Skill is a Stakeholder's necessary level of expertise within a specific area that is required to successfully undertake a role on the Project.

Project on Demand offers the ability to define the Required Skills for a Project and group these Skills within Roles which can then be assigned to Stakeholders. The Stakeholder Skill Matrix Tool can be used to record the level of Experience each Stakeholder has with the defined Required Skill on the current Project, this will highlight any gaps in the availability of skills for a Project.

Required Skills can be managed using Required Skill Management that is accessible by clicking the Required Skill Management button in the side menu of Project Maintenance or via the Open Required Skill Management button in Stakeholder Skill Matrix Tool.

How should they be used?

Usage of Required Skills within Project on Demand is as follows:

1 Identify and record the Required Skills and quantity that are necessary to deliver the Project or a specific Phase. Create Required Skills.
Assign Required Skills to Stakeholders via Project Roles:

3 Assign Project Roles to Stakeholders. Assign Project Roles to Stakeholders.
Use the Required Skills Matrix Tool to identify Skill deficiencies:
4 Assess and record each Stakeholder's level of experience with each defined Required Skill. Edit Stakeholders Required Skill Experience within the Required Skills Matrix and assign the appropriate level of Experience for possessed Skills.
5 Assess the currently available Skills on Stakeholders versus the Required Skills defined for the Project to identify any Skill deficiencies. Use the Required Skills Matrix to easily visually identify any Skill deficiencies within the Project.

Managing

Required Skill Management can be used to Create, Edit, Import and Remove Required Skills.

The management child window can be accessed by clicking the Required Skill Management button in the side menu of Project Maintenance or via the Open Required Skill Management button in Stakeholder Skill Matrix Tool.

Required Skill displayed are sorted in ascending order by Description.

Creating a new Required Skill

Clicking on the New button will alter the displayed child window to include an area at the bottom so a new Required Skill can be recorded.

Once all properties are set the new Required Skill can be saved by clicking the Save button at the bottom of the child window. If any validation errors are encountered they will display at the bottom of the child window and must be rectified before the new Required Skill can be successfully saved.

Upon successful completion of creating a new Required Skill the child window will revert back to it's normal state, a success message will display at the bottom of the child window and the newly created Required Skill will be selected in the DataGrid.

If the Cancel button is clicked, the child window will revert back to it's normal state and nothing will be saved.

Editing a Required Skill

Selecting a Required Skill and clicking on the Edit button will alter the displayed child window to include an area at the bottom so the Required Skill can be edited. Alternatively the row can be double-clicked to perform the same action.

Once all necessary changes have been made the Required Skill can be saved by clicking the Save button at the bottom of the child window. If any validation errors are encountered they will display at the bottom of the child window and must be rectified before the Required Skill can be successfully saved.

Upon successful completion of the editing process the child window will revert back to it's normal state and a success message will display at the bottom of the child window.

If the Cancel button is clicked, the child window will revert back to it's normal state and any changes will be cancelled.

Removing a Required Skill

Selecting the Required Skill to remove and clicking on the Remove button will display a removal confirmation window. If Cancel is clicked the confirmation window will close and the Required Skill will not be removed. If Yes is clicked the selected Required Skill will be removed and a successful removal message will be displayed at the bottom of the child window.

Importing Required Skills

Clicking the Import button will flip the child window to display Import Required Skills.

In order to view and import Required Skills from another Project, a Project must be selected from the "Import from Project" drop-down at the top. The drop-down is populated with any Projects that have Required Skills identified.

Required Skills that have been checked in the Import column of the DataGrid will be Imported once the Import button is clicked. The Check All feature can be used to check all displayed Required Skills.

Upon successful import the child window will flip back around to display Required Skill Management, a success message will be displayed at the bottom of the child window and the last of the newly imported Required Skills will be selected.
